Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) Engineering & Design

Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) offers a lower-cost method of reducing nitrogen oxides than Selective Catalytic Reduction. For smaller or older power plants, SNCR is the NOx control installation of choice. It can also sometimes be an interim technology before an SCR can be installed. Although the removal efficiency is between 25 and 35%, capital costs are significantly less, and installation time is considerably shorter.

The SNCR functions by injecting ammonia or urea solutions into the flue gas at some point where conditions and temperature are optimal. The design challenges include ensuring proper mixing and finding the appropriate temperature for the reaction. As with an SCR, the products of the chemical reaction are atmospheric nitrogen and water.

CORMETECH's experience with the technology includes a wide variety of units ranging from 15 MW up to 640 MW, both coal- and biomass-fired. CORMETECH can help you meet your needs across a wide variety of applications.
